Killing for God

Would you kill someone if God asked you to?

Killing for God? I found the image on the right somewhere on the internet. Just read it for a moment. What kind of answer can a Christian give? This seems harder than it actually is.

The answer

Would you kill someone if God (YHWH) asked you to? The only right answer is ‘no’. The only uncomfortable thing about this answer is the actual question. The question implies that the God of the Bible can ask this at any moment of time. The question reveals a lack of knowledge about the Biblical God and His plan for salvation. When someone states that God ordered him to kill, we can be sure its was not the God of the Bible who asked the question. YHWH commanded us to love others as ourselves:
Matthew 22: 37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Jesus commanded us to testify of salvation and to live out the principle of God’s kingdom by being peacemakers, pursuing righteousness, comforting, loving others, etcetera (Matthew 5).

The question has a faulty assumption and does not need to be answered at all. The God of the Bible will not ask such questions. Moreover, when someone believes he/she did receive such an question we can be sure that this person: has either a psychical problem, or the person finds him/herself in a situation in which he/she needs to choose between two evils and thinks that it was God who gave the final command to kill (take for example a violent robbery), or the command comes from an entity who pretends to be God.
